People always had mistaken a showstopper city as a country’s capital, a famous name of place where everyone is talking about. The city that always pictured in postcards, souvenirs, and travel news and seem convincingly a capital, is not.
Take Rio de Janeiro for example. It’s a mistake to think that Rio is the capital of Brazil. Ok, Rio with the population of over 6 million is a big city. The real capital of Brazil is Brasilia and not everybody knows this fact, for many of us have mistaken Rio de Janeiro as the capital of Brazil. Rio is an ideal city to go spending your holiday to. It’s a city where men and women live within their limits, afraid of street crimes, but are happy to sing and dance in the streets.
Rio de Janeiro might not be safe, but just like other great cities in the world; crime has its own share.
The criminal rate here are high, but the city is doing very serious efforts dealing with this safety issues. It’s sad to know that Rio is famous for its violence and crime. Actually Rio is more than just drug lords and slums. In this second largest city of Brazil, you will find breathtaking experiences from its beautiful beaches, landscapes, and annual carnivals.
The greatest reason to visit Rio is the carnival. Carnival in Rio is known as the world’s most famous party. Millions of tourists enthusiastically join this event. The party can lasts for almost two weeks, the best samba schools in the country parade in Centro on giant construction named Sambadrome. Samba schools work whole year round for preparation of this carnival. The show on Sambadrome can lasts four nights, they are like some sort of official competition. The winners are divided according to the costume, theme, quality of band performance, and the dance flow. Some schools hold parties in the streets of their neighborhood.
It’s very interesting to see a carnival in Rio de Janeiro, but the time of the carnival is exactly where hotel Rio de Janeiro prices are high in Rio. Lodgings and rooms can so expensive, up to 4 times the regular rates. But even it is not the carnival season, hotel Rio de Janeiro is commonly known as expensive in Brazil. Because of the shortage of rooms during carnival time, most hotels in the tourist areas are only selling packages for 4 days, and they charge you in advance. If you are a backpacker and don’t mind staying in hostels, they are easy to find in Rio de Janeiro. Mostly they located near beaches, either Ipanema or Copacobana. It’s a fun way to wake up in the morning and go straight to the beach. Hostels are quite famous in Rio, and they are just walking distances from popular spots. But please beware about walking around in Rio at night. Avoid dark areas, for you might end up being robbed. Please remember that Rio de Janeiro can be dangerous. Do not leave the “Zona Sul” and Western Suburbs (Barra and Recreio). Zona Sul includes Copacobana, Ipanema, Leblon, Gavea, Jardim Botanico, Flamengo, Laranjeiras, Botafogo, and Urca. Do not wander in the dark streets by night. In Rio, most shops closed on Sunday. The securities guards are also absent, so it is less safe to travel even in daytime. Just spend your Sunday near beaches and stay there, because it is the best option.
